Is Print Dead?

Working in digital and social media has made me question whether print is dead.  One cannot debate the fact that we are living in the digital age and many of our lives are consumed by the internet. Over the week i am probably on the net roughly 50 hours...geeez! It seems like a lot when i look at that figure, but my work revolves around the internet. So the question remains, it print dead? Many of the glossies seem to be cutting down on staff. Not one week goes by when you don’t hear of someone in the industry moving out of print and into digital.

Despite this obvious change in the media industry, there is nothing quite like holding a magazine, with its shiny pages and beautiful wonderland features. The world of magazines can illuminate your imagination and bring only dream images to real life.

Recently i have been freelancing for a new Sydney based magazine called Happenstance. Created by a small team of Sydney journalists, designers and all round talented kids, Happenstance takes a sneek peek into the art and culture scene of Australian lifestyle. The content is fresh and ambitious and reveals some of the untouched talent that lives amongst us.

With their 3rd issue about to be released, i took a look back at their very first issue and the article i wrote for them on an Australian menswear label Beat Poet. Check it out below. If you want to support the magazine that supports you, you can buy a copy of any past issue here.
