Fashion Week Wrap Up

Well Fashion Week for 2010 is now over, and i have caught up on sleep finally! What can i say about the manic week? It involved some amazing new friends, many cups of coffee, lots of champagne, and some must-have pieces of clothing.

I spent the week freelancing for 2threads and Rescu, filming street style, interviewing designers backstage and attending shows/reviewing.

Because every other fashion blog out there will be posting about RAFW, i'm going to keep my thoughts on the low down. But, i do have a little sneak peek coming of a new designer that is simply amazing. For now feast yours eyes on the Dion Lee show....can someone say, yes please!

It's Saturday and i am deathly hung over. I don't plan on moving from my couch for a long time. So, in order to feel a little inspired today, here are some of my fave street style snaps from around the globe this week.

I will be down at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week starting on Monday, filming street style for 2threads, and i can only hope i discover some great outfits like these style vagabonds.

The Mayhem that is Fashion Week

It's the Friday before Rosemount Australian Fashion Week and i am preparing for a week of:

-mayhem
-no sleep
-too many outfit changes
-excessive Twitter-ing
-free wine

I have been a busy bee of late freelancing for a women's lifestyle website called Rescu. I recently chatted to Alex Perry  about his upcoming show at RAFW.

Check it out here for some style inspiration!

Wednesday Evening Love.

These remind me of my trip to China/Tibet. Endless mountains and colourful people, none of whom were fazed by the harsh conditions they lived in.

Where beauty lives amongst struggle.

I have been consumed by a wonderful novel by Japanese author Haruki Murakami over the past weeks. 'The Wind Up Bird Chronicle' was suggested to me by my lovely book-nerd flat mate, Chloe.

Here are 3 words to describe this addictive tale: eccentric, provoking, beautiful. It will make you feel just like these below images as you read through each page.

Oh, and because i love my flat mate oh so much, i spent a small portion of my day making this Paper Panda for her. Props to Miseducated for the cute little guy.

Last week i finished up at a job that has consumed me for the past year full time. I was working as part editor/community coordinator/all round office bitch at fashion networking site 2threads.com

Having now left, and with no clear direction of what lies ahead, i have been experiencing an overwhelming feeling of adventure, nervousness and excitement. I cannot wait to find out what lies around the corner, and i have no doubts that it will be something bigger and better than that which i have known until now.

So dear future, heres to you.

Today, i feel like climbing trees like this kid. But perhaps a bigger and more leafier tree.

Travel, is also necessary this coming year.

Synesthesia.

Part of my job is to scan the internet for the latest in the fashion industry. This includes viewing new look books as they come through. Rarely do i see a look book that leaves me speechless. But designer Iris Van Herpen, has achieved just that.

The designer, originating from Amsterdam, is slowly taking over the fashion circuit with her pure works of wearable art. Iris van Herpen has worked with the likes of Viktor & Rolf and Alexander McQueen, and has recently shown at London fashion week.

Her latest look book for her collection ‘Synesthesia’ is utterly breathtaking. The models are swept up in a magical world of fast paced fashion, caught somewhere in between movement and stillness. The collection’s attention to detail is flawless, as Iris focuses on a technical and hands on approach, finessed through fine detail and vibrant colour combinations.
I am in love.

Is Print Dead?

Working in digital and social media has made me question whether print is dead.  One cannot debate the fact that we are living in the digital age and many of our lives are consumed by the internet. Over the week i am probably on the net roughly 50 hours...geeez! It seems like a lot when i look at that figure, but my work revolves around the internet. So the question remains, it print dead? Many of the glossies seem to be cutting down on staff. Not one week goes by when you don’t hear of someone in the industry moving out of print and into digital.

Despite this obvious change in the media industry, there is nothing quite like holding a magazine, with its shiny pages and beautiful wonderland features. The world of magazines can illuminate your imagination and bring only dream images to real life.

Recently i have been freelancing for a new Sydney based magazine called Happenstance. Created by a small team of Sydney journalists, designers and all round talented kids, Happenstance takes a sneek peek into the art and culture scene of Australian lifestyle. The content is fresh and ambitious and reveals some of the untouched talent that lives amongst us.

With their 3rd issue about to be released, i took a look back at their very first issue and the article i wrote for them on an Australian menswear label Beat Poet. Check it out below. If you want to support the magazine that supports you, you can buy a copy of any past issue here.
